Tax Senior Manager, Managing Director or Partner, Closely Held

Our Closely Held group is dedicated to the passionate pursuit of helping closely held businesses and their owners seize opportunity. In this role, you will build lasting relationships with clients – advising on both tax and non-tax related issues, work on complex tax projects, be part of growing the firm, and lead your team to achieve personal and professional goals.  

Business Development: 

• Responsible for strategy and growth of the firm’s Private Client Services, including identifying market trends, anticipating opportunities, and developing go-to-market strategies/plans 

• Build strong relationships and interact regularly with clients, internal client partners and up-and-coming talent, external industry groups, Centers of Influence, industry Market Leaders in adjacent sectors, and Service Line Leaders – coordinating to align skills with market trends and drive strategic technical leadership hires 

Client Experience: 

• Serve and build relationships with clients, monitoring client service and value proposition, acting as trusted advisor to ensure we are a premium provider delivering quality work, open communication, sound advice, and proactive service 

• Develop a comprehensive approach to meet the needs of Closely Held Businesses and their Owners, including leadership with a focus on scaling the practice and demonstrating intellectual curiosity to ensure client needs are met 

• Serve clients in the manufacturing, construction, real estate, retail and wholesale distribution sectors  

• Adjust client pricing, strategy, and services as necessary  

Leadership, Mentorship & Staff Development: 

• Respect and celebrate the value of each of the stories, backgrounds, perspectives, and ideas of each of our team members, building meaningful relationships with all those you interact with 

• Be growth oriented and work towards building a leveraged model, when appropriate 

• Provide mentoring and motivation to the team, including developing young leaders via active contribution to training and development 

• Exhibit forward thinking, innovation, and delivering an exceptional work product  

Technical: 

• Perform Executive level tax advisory, compliance review and tax return signoff 

• Serve as a go-to resource for technical questions or knowledge 

• Act as a technical and/or business leader both internally and externally  

Who You Are 

Required: 

• Bachelor’s degree; CPA or JD  

• 10+ years of progressive experience within tax, preferably in a public accounting firm and including leadership experience with a consistent record of accomplishment, accountability, and history of execution against budget and strategic initiatives.  

• Proven thought leadership, advanced technical skills and in-depth knowledge within tax for Closely Held businesses and their Owners including experience with individuals, manufacturing companies, real estate, multigenerational businesses, S-corps, C-corps, and Partnerships. 

Location: 

• Buffalo, NY 

• Hybrid work environment (2-3 days in office per week)
