Cohen & Company is seeking an adept Tax professional at the Manager, Senior Manager or Director level to join our growing practice. The successful candidate will play a pivotal leadership role in managing client relationships, leading teams, and contributing to the growth and development of the practice. We take a client-centric approach, collaborating with our client’s team of professional advisors, to deliver tailored white-glove solutions that address the unique needs of each client.

 

Our team focuses on complex tax planning strategies, pre- and post-liquidity events, estate and income tax planning, generational wealth transfer, philanthropic goals, and understanding our client’s global picture – from the highest tiers of their investment strategy and/or business operations, through to the family unit itself. Our team collaborates with industries across the firm including real estate, investment companies, private equity, private companies, valuation, and transaction services.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a portfolio of high-net-worth private clients, ensuring the delivery of high-quality tax and advisory services.
  • Provide Executive presence and act as the primary client contact for preparation and presentation of issues and resolution to clients.
  • Develop, bring-forth and implement strategic planning initiatives for clients.
  • Handle direct communication with government agencies for matters of the highest complexity.
  • Stay abreast of changes in tax laws, financial regulations, and market trends that could impact clients, and advise accordingly.
  • Utilize strong analytical, research and critical thinking skills as well as decision-making skills to assist with client needs on technical issues, individual and business decisions.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Collaborate with other industries and practices across the firm to provide integrated services to clients.
  • Engage in business development opportunities for new client engagements, and lead efforts to expand the client base of the Private Client Services Group.
  • Maintain and foster existing client relationships, as well as those in Cohen’s external network of advisors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required.
    • Master’s degree or LL.M in taxation is preferred.
  • CPA, J.D. and/or Enrolled Agent required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience, with a focus on tax services, working with high-net-worth individuals, families, and their entities.
  • Experience in directly managing client relationships and navigating external client advisors.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to clients and team members.
  • Deep understanding of complex investments. Previous work with family office structuring under Lender is preferred.
  • Proficient in individual, trust, estate, gift, and investment partnership taxation, as well as a proven track record of developing and implementing tax planning strategies for the same. 
  • Familiar with multi-state taxation and residency.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail, and a tenacity to seek out answers to challenging problems.
  • Proven ability to manage projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining confidence under pressure.
  • History of trustworthiness and good moral character.

 

Estimated Salary Range: $80,000 - $250,000*
